Lancaster is not perhaps a city you would associate with stomping House and Techno, but that is not to say there is no want for it. Like any UK city, there is always a handful of like-minded heroes who step up and answer the call. LUEDMS generously supplies the city’s need for the underground genres; you’ll not find any Love Island winners on this dance floor, or in the ‘VIP’ (sigh).
The first event of term comes with it the excitement of the freshers, swarms of students who are open to anything that involves getting off campus and into town for a party. Many of these students have defined musical taste, they will come to University either strongly for or strongly against house and techno, and this is fine. Many other students will come with an open mind and grow to love the underground genres, after a childhood of only being exposed to Capital FM and the iTunes chart. Either way, LUEDMS welcomes you.
More on LUEDMS in an upcoming feature, for now let’s talk line-ups…
Introducing… Rich Wakley.
Leeds-born talent Rich Wakley is no stranger to the house music industry, with releases on labels like Hot Creations, Suara, Kenja, Lapsus, Toolroom, OFF and Madtech to name just a handful, Rich sets the bar for other DJs to follow. To see Rich Wakley lined up to play in a city like Lancaster, after previously playing around the world at festivals such as Burning Man, Sonar and Exit, shows his humbling success and loyalty to his UK fan-base despite his global demand. This really is not an act to be missed.
Having worked with Rich on a Throne Room Radio podcast show back in 2016, it will be great to see how his style has changed over the past year, and something to compare against when he plays for Throne Room in Amsterdam under his duo-Techno alias of Spektre. Exciting stuff!
The line-up is completed by residents: LEW:NEW, MAT:TU, and The 5:15’s very own Josh Lee and Liam Armstrong.
See Rich Wakley play at LUEDMS on Friday October 13th. Tickets available on the door (limited).
